The Aliens are Here

Just google it. They’re everywhere, confirmed by everyone that would know. The floods, sea level rise, forest burns, glacier melts, landslides, volcanoes, extreme tornadoes and hurricanes – here, now. Nuclear war, Armagddon, the apocalypse – it’s all here. Now.

Kind of always has been. In my lifetime at least. 1967 to now. Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis, Church, duck & cover, school shootings, Bush wars, Obama drones, the orange one. They’ve always been here. It’s always been worse than it’s ever been.

And it is. Velocity. A word we picked up somewhere along the way. At the time its meaning hit us as something we are. Always changing. Moving through the world with velocity. Turns out there’s a cool graphic about how the earth isn’t spinning around the sun – it’s moving through the galaxy with the sun and planets in a cool spiral – with velocity.

We all remember those hopeful times and hope for more of that. It’s what we do. It’s literally all most of us can do. Hope. There’s a guy on Facebook I follow, I think I met him in person like 20 years ago. He calls himself a Hope Dealer, and really – isn’t that what all of it is?

Drugs, alcohol, sex, lies, cheating and stealing and lying … religion. For hope. A little bit, anywhere, anytime. All these beliefs get us there. A hope for a better life before we die – a very natural part of life, like eating. Hope goes exactly with life. It keeps us from ending it. Maybe the only thing that keeps us from ending it.

Except for those we hate. They need to die. That leader or perceived enemy. The ones that are going to get us before we get them.

Hope and death. Maybe that’s the aliens? The simulation?

Good luck with that.
