I’m up in the 4am hour most days. It’s been raining all night. There’s thunder. The Chihuahuas are definitely going to pee on the carpet. We live on a ridge south of the river.

I watch KXAN, San Antonio ‘local news’ until the weather runs when I change to some concert. Dylan Gossett Live from Stagecoach finally showed up on Youtube.
Daniel is going to help Bill take the day off. He calls me sometime after 7am. Nobody’s onsite and he can’t reach Bill. He tells me Kerrville is flooding and it’s bad. Real bad. Daniel grew up here.
Daniel is supposed to meet the painters, nobody’s there. Bill’s phone goes straight to voice mail. I call the painter but he’s in Dallas – he’s going to have the Kerrville guy that’s supposed to be here call me.
I wake Jenn up to see the floodwaters and to check on Bill. I text Bill.

While Jenn’s getting ready to go see some high waters, the news is starting to pickup on the flood. Watching San Antonio news, I hear about another flash flood on our river. They have a shot of Comfort, Texas downstream, about a 30 minute drive, and how it has not reached there yet.
My rough idea was to go see the floodwaters in Kerrville on our way to check on Bill, then drive to Comfort about 30mins out and watch the ‘flash flood’ grow under their bridge. Cool.

We’ve been in an historic years long drought. I was grateful for the rain even though it is flooding. All of us would be happy for the rain.

But we weren’t.

We went to help Bill. But it was gone. All of it.
